The excitement of the ASRS Strutmasters.com All Star Tour sailed into Smyrna Beach at the ½ mile New Smyrna Speedway for the New Smyrna 125. In the 125 lap event on the quick Florida ½ mile, Ty Hester steered his Jimmy Johns #68 Chevy to the win after spinning by himself from 2nd place on lap 47. Travis McQuistion's #93 was also in contention for the checkers in the first half of the race but a fish tail coming out of turn 2 while battling Hester in the closing stages, hurt McQuistion in his chance for a win. The pole sitting Jonathan Holstein's #73 machine finished 3rd, after a slow pit stop cost him track position. Alex Bates brought the #45 Traxxas RC car to a quiet 4th place finish. Rex Hoyle's #50 CroftGate Late Model limped home in 5th after a lap 6 incident between him and the #91 of John Gifford eliminated his change for victory. Also involved in the lap 6 crash was the #2 of Jim Foose, the #77 of Shawn Musick, and McQuistion, who received light damage in the crash.
The only other incident of the night happened on lap 56, a result of Holstein having contact with the #00 of Bryce Whitson, ending the night for the Whitson late model. The 125 laps were completed with only 3 yellows for 15 laps, and 2 lead changes.
The ASRS Strutmasters.com All Star Tour points has Ty Hester leading by 17 points over a tie for second place between Travis McQuistion and Jim Foose. Alex Bates sits in 4rd 20 points back from the lead followed by Marc Meyers in 5th, 23 behind the top spot.
Next week, the ASRS Strutmasters.com All Star Tour heads to the Lanier National Speedway in Braselton, Georgia for the Lanier 100.
